Peter McNabGeneral Notes: In 1891 he was recorded as being a Gaelic speaker indicating he had no English. By 1901 he was shown as "G & E". Chronology: He resided in 1841 in Distilling House, Kilbrandon & Kilchattan Parish. In 1851 he was working as a Lobster Fisherman at Glengarrisdale, Island of Jura, Argyll on the remote north west coast. He was described as being a Partner of and living with the MacPhail brothers from Kilchattan. 3 In 1861 he was described as a Seaman (Merchant Service) and was on board the "Mary K?????" of Glasgow with two others. An additional note seems to say "Lanark Coasting". 4 He worked as a Ship's Carpenter in 1871 and resided at Lodging at 14 Alma St, Govan, Glasgow. 5 He worked as a Ship's Carpenter in 1881 and resided at Lodging at 1 Alma Street, Govan, Glasgow. 6 In 1891 he was a Ship's Carpenter and was lodging with a family of Fergusons with William his brother in Ardchattan, Argyll . 7 He worked as a Ship's Carpenter (Own Account) in 1901 and resided at Lodger at Drishaig Farm, Ardchattan, Argyll. 8 |
