In 1881 he was a Private with "45th Regiment Sherwood Foresters" at their Permanent Barracks in Aldershot, Hampshire. 8
In 1885 he was a Soldier living at 71 Walker St, Sneinton.
In 1891 there is no sign of George on the census - where was the regiment at this time?
In 1901 he was living 436 Whiteman Rd, Nottingham with Eliza and was working as a Coal Miner (Hewer). He stated his birthplace as Sevenoaks, Derbys. There seems to be an area in Stanton by Dale of this name. 10
George married Eliza Ann Smalley, daughter of William Smalley and Eliza, on 10 Jul 1887 in Radford Christ Church.1 2 (Eliza Ann Smalley was born Jan to Mar 1860 in Radford 11, christened on 30 Nov 1862 in Radford Christ Church 12 and died after 1901 6.)
George next married Minnie Fisher, daughter of Joseph Fisher and Sarah, on 17 Apr 1879 in Bramcote, Notts.3 (Minnie Fisher was christened on 22 Jun 1862 in Radford Christ Church,13 died in Oct 1880 in Bramcote 14 15 and was buried on 22 Oct 1880 in Bramcote 16.)
