Thomas Greathead born c 1711 from Bolton, Lancashire #16017

Richard Greathead was born about 1812 in Hulme, Cheshire, England.2 He was the son of Robert Greathead and Ann Haslam.1 Richard Greathead was also known as Richard Bradley Richard's father Robert died in 1813 aged 25, his mother Ann (nee Haslam) married David Bradley 14 November 1814. So Richard would have been aged three. So it is possible that he might be known as Bradley or Greathead. He did use either/both names from time to time.3,1 He married Sarah Whitworth in 1837.1 His wife Sarah died on 1 September 1838.1,4 Richard was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 June 1841 in 7 Evans Street, Manchester, Lancashire, England, Richard was a cotton spinner and had his mother and step sisters living with him.5 He married Elizabeth Barlow on 25 December 1841 in St Mary, Parish Church, Prestwich, Manchester, Lancashire, England, Richard was a widower when he married his second wife Elizabeth. The marriage was performed after banns were read and witnessed by John Hunt who left his mark of X, and James Sheldrick. Both Richard and Elizabeth also left their mark as X and their address as Oldham. No father was listed on the marriage certificate for Elizabeth.6,7 Richard was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in 32 Hibbert Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England, Richard was a spinner, bit of a mystery as with the many children is listed a Richard aged one month but the only Richard that seems to have been born is #1753 in 1862.8 Richard seems to have had several occupations all probably within the same industry. In 1849 he is described as a piecer, a minder in 1853. By 1855 he is a cotton spinner operative.9,10,11 He died on 27 January 1871 in 66 Erskine Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England.1,12 His death was registered on 1 February 1871 by Elizabeth Bradley his widow, who made a X and gave her address as 32 Hibbert Street, Hulme in the Chorlton Register Office. The cause of his death was Bronchitis for one week.12
