General Notes:
I've looked for possible siblings of Obadiah without success. A James Lucas jnr b 1806 Harwich looked vaguely promising but the "jnr" suggested a father of the same name. This turned out to be the case with James Snr in Manningtree in 1841. His father and mother are probably Robert Lucas (b c1780 Manningtree) and Susannah Scott m 1864 Manningtree so any Suffolk connection would have to be way back. Thomas Clark Lucas b 1796 and Thomas Lucas b c1823 who appear on the same census sheets as James jnr in 1861 and 1851 are probably his uncle and cousin. This family are all mariners of one kind or other.

He worked as a Hotel Keeper in 1839 and resided at "Dove", 76 St Helens Street, Ipswich. 7
He worked as an Innkeeper in 1841 and resided at "Dove Inn", St Helen's St, Ipswich. 8 (Mary Anne Cole 45 is in the hotel)
He worked as a Hotel Keeper in 1844 and resided at "Dove", St Helen's Street, Ipswich. 9
He worked as a Licenced Victualler in 1851 and resided at St Helen's Street, Ipswich. 10 (with wife Mary Anne, nephew William Cole, mother Elizabeth Lucas, niece Alice Allen 6 b Stepney)
He worked as a Retired Victualler in 1861 and resided at 178 Woodbridge Rd, Ipswich. 11 (with wife Mary A, nephew William Cole, daughter Mary A, and grand daughter Emily Mahony 2 b Middlesex)
He worked as a Retired Innkeeper in 1871 and resided at 178 Woodbridge Rd, Ipswich. 12 (with wife Mary A and dau Mary A)
Obadiah married Hannah Chapman, daughter of Jacob Chapman and Thomasine, on 24 Sep 1823 in St Peter, Ipswich, Suffolk.1 (Hannah Chapman was born Cal 1796 in Not Suffolk 8, christened on 17 Jul 1796 in St Giles Cripplegate, London 13 and died Jan to Mar 1843 in Ipswich, Suffolk 14.)
Obadiah next married Mary Ann Chapman, daughter of Jacob Chapman and Thomasine, on 6 Aug 1847 in Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London.2 3 (Mary Ann Chapman was born Cal 1797 in Chislehurst, Kent 10 and was christened on 24 Dec 1797 in Chislehurst, Kent 15.)
