  General Notes:

In 1841 Mary is living with her 3 children next door to Charles b1816 and I think we could assume she was his aunt. Charles the elder was only a few doors away.

So who was her husband?

There is an April 1841 record for the death of a Charles French, 15 months old and this gives us a clue. He died in Plaistow and his death tells us he was the son of a James and Mary French. The informant was a Jane French. freebmd seems to have no record of his birth (our Charles b Aug 1840 is recorded in the Sep 1840 qtr).

We have a series of baptisms in West Ham for the children of a James and Mary French but only Sarah b 1831 matches the children of the 1841 Plaistow Mary. It does seem quite possible that this Mary of "James and Mary" and possibly the James is James Edward son of Peter and Mary French not James son of Richard and Sarah. The inclusion of a Peter and a Charles seems to back this up but until something else comes up I'll leave them as they are.
