Alice Austin died at 38 years old of tuberculosis, leaving behind a family of seven children. The youngest, Keith was only two years old. Her sister Vera stepped in to look after the family for several years until Ilma was old enough to take over the duties.
Alice married William Austin, son of William Austin and Elizabeth Blackmore, on 21 Dec 1904. (William Austin was born on 1 May 1876 in Christchurch N.Z, died on 14 Feb 1939 in Ivanhoe and was buried in Coburg Independant Section No 175 (No Headstone).)
