Wassington

  General Notes:

The surname Wassington is based on the fact that daughter Hilda May b1906 was recorded as "Wassington". It seems likley that this was the surname of Hilda's father although not recorded on Hilda's birth certificate.

Unfortunately I can find no "Wassingtons" born, married or died in UK and recorded on freebmd.org. The most likely explanation is that the name is a mis-recording of "Washington" Even if this was the case there are very few Washingtoms I can find in Nottinghamshire in 1901.

There was the family of a clergyman in Hawton, Notts. There was a son Robert born 1880 but I can't find him after the 1881 census.

And then there was Charles Washington 27 and recorded as born New York. He is with his wife and child staying in Charles Villas, Chaucer Street less than half a mile from Redoubt St, Radford. His occupation is Stage Carpenter and in the boarding house are what looks like the rest of a vaudeville troupe including a Variety Music Hall manager, comedian, cinematographer, dancer, vocalist and burlesque actress. This same Charles in 1911 is living in Ealing, London but now with birtplace given as Poplar, London. He has with him a daughter born in 1905 in Greenwich but maybe he travelled on a circuit with the troupe and Nottingham, was on the circuit. A long shot but a possibiilty at very least

And there is this about Ralph Pringle the manager:

Wassington had a relationship with Clara Wright, daughter of Thomas Wright and Mary Ann Palmer. (Clara Wright was born on 18 Apr 1882 in Nottingham ^{1 2} and died in Jun 1979 in Nottingham (reg) ³.)
