Chronology:

In 1861 he was a Scholar staying with Uncle Isaac Kirkby in Allen St, Hucknall Torkard. ¹⁸

In 1871 he was working as a Clerk Gas Office and living in the High Road, Beeston with his widowed father and his brother Frederick who was described as a Professor of Music. ¹⁹

In 1881 he was an Office Clerk living in High St, Beeston with Annie, children including infant Florence who was being cared for by Monthly Nurse Frances Benson. Servant Mary Atkin, 17, was also living there. His father and brother Fred lived close by. ²⁰

In 1891 he was described as a Commercial Clerk and was living at Imperial Rd, Beeston with Annie, his children and servant Mary Atkins who later moved to Australia and met Fred and Mabel Beresford there in 1927. ²¹

In 1901 he was working as a Clerk for the Nottingham Corporation and living at 62 Imperial Rd, Beeston with Annie and children Samuel, Evelyn and Constance. ²²

He worked as a Gasworks Clerk in 1911 and resided at 62 Imperial Rd, Beeston. ²³ (with wife and children Sam and Eveline)

Samuel married Annie Thornhill, daughter of William "Riley" Thornhill and Eliza Wibberley, on 12 May 1874 in Beeston, Notts.¹ ² ³ ⁴ (Annie Thornhill was born on 2 Feb 1856 in Beeston, Notts ²⁴, christened on 2 Mar 1856 in Beeston, Notts,²⁵ died on 22 Apr 1931 in Notts ²⁶ ²⁷ and was buried in Beeston Cemetery ²⁸.)
