In 1855 at the time of his wife's death he was a Fisherman of Kames, Glassary, Argyll. 8
In 1861 he was a widowed Herring Fisherman living with his grandson Archibald in West Kames, Glassary. 9
James married Isabel McLarty, daughter of Angus McLarty and Anne Sinclair, on 22 Feb 1812 in Glassary, Lochgilphead.1 2 (Isabel McLarty was born on 6 Jun 1792 in Glassary, Argyll,10 11 died on 17 Feb 1855 in Kaimes, Glassary 12 13 and was buried in Kilmory Burial Ground 14.)
