  General Notes:

Glassary is a rural parish in Argyllshire, about 4 miles north of Lochgilphead towards Oban. It is centred on the small village of Kilmichael.

Lochgilphead stands, as the name suggests, at the head of Loch Gilp, a short loch leading north west from Loch Fyne. The town was first laid out as a planned settlement in about 1790, only a few years after the completion of the road from Inveraray to Campbeltown.
Lochgilphead's position became still more important in 1801, with the opening of the Crinan Canal providing a short cut across the Kintyre peninsula. After passing down Lochgilphead's western side this meets Loch Fyne at Ardrishaig, two miles to the south.

  Chronology:

In 1841 he was a Fisherman living in Kames, Glassary, Argyll with his parents, siblings and Isabella and son James. 6

He worked as a Fisherman in bad health in 1851 and resided at Lochgilphead, Argyll. 7 (note that next to son James' entry is "receiving parochial aid")

In 1861 at the time of his death he was a Cooper in Lochgilphead, Argyll. This is confirmed by the references on his son James' marriage entry in 1868 (although he is referred to as "James") and his wife's death entry in 1903. 8

An Isobella Walker was born to Duncan Walker and Catherine Mitchel in Glassary on 3 June 1819 (note that this is the same the date she died). This does not agree with her death cert which names her father as John Walker but death cert has no more detail of him or mother .

Isabella Murray appears in the 1891 and 1901 censuses living in Lochgilphead with her son-in-law, John Stewart and the place of birth is given as Argyllshire, Glassary in 1891 and Argyllshire, Lochgair in 1901 and 1871.
