  General Notes:

Ann's parents are a bit of a mystery. Her marriage states that her father was John McDougall, Police Constable and her mother Ann McInnes indicating they were not married. Ann's 1899 death entry has her mother as Ann McInnes (dec) but no mention of her father. The McInnes and McDougall familes are well represented in these parishes and John seems to have been a particularly popular name. The following is a theory that seems to fit but needs more work.

There is an Ann McInnes aged 44 at the time of her death in Kilbride Seil (origin of Hugh's family). In 1841 and 1851 she was single and living with her widowed mother Euphemia McInnes in Easdale.

In 1851 in Kilchattan there is an Ann McDougall 14 born Kilchattan living with her grandmother Ann McDougall, pauper and born Jura. Next door is a John McDougall and family and this John is also born Jura suggesting he is the older Ann's son. He is 35 and his wife 29 and his oldest child present is 7. His older two children were born in Paisley which might fit with him being a Renfrewshire constable before returning. On the other hand this might be his second marriage and his first as per entries at bottom of this page.

The Jura connection is strengthened by the fact that her daughter Helen (Nellie) was born there and next door to Hugh in 1851 is a McDougall family with Jura connections.
