  General Notes:

"Robert travelled before his marriage, and looked up the Hayball family at Coombes near Chard in Somerset - among other places." DH

There is a Hayball Street in Humpty Doo, NT apparenetly named after "R Hayball" who was a teamster with Goyder's 1869 expedition from Adelaide to Darwin. Could this have been 19 year old Robert who "travelled before his marriage"?

  Chronology:

He was part of Hayball Bros of Brighton from 1882 to 1920. This description of the company is from 1888.

"Hayball Bros. North Brighton.
This firm of builders, timber merchants, sawmill owner and co. consists of Messrs Edwin, Robert & William Hayball, all of Victorian birth, and conducts its business in New St. Brighton. The business of builders was initiated by the late Mr Robert Hayball Snr., from whom it descended to the above-mentioned sons. Some years ago, owing to their enormous consumption of timber, it was deemed necessary to open a timber yard, the business of which has increased to such an extent that there are few if any to equal it in the city of Melbourne. A great number of men are employed in the joiners shop, sawmills, timber yards and upon the numerous buildings in course of erection by this firm. It also does a large business in ironmongery, and owns the Brighton steam saw, moulding and planing mills, also being interested in some of the most extensive up-country sawmills. The office of this firm is connected to the Melbourne exchange by telephone."
