  General Notes:

"It must have been a very happy life in those early days - not the earliest when my grandmother had to cook in a camp oven out of doors and all the roofs were iron. She must have felt the heat very much after the cool, moist air of southern England and the comforts of her girlhood home, but she never complained - only told her children of the beauty of the Coombes with its rose hedges and little streams meandering across the roads. After all it was her doing that they came out here. One of her stories, my Uncle Harry told me, was of a barrister uncle about her own age, who took her driving in his dog cart and spanking ponies, to the jealousy of her girl friends who thought he was her beau."
