  Chronology:

In 1841 he was a (unreadable?) living with wife Jane, children Henry and Agnes and servant Agnes Esplen, 15 possibly a sister. 5

In 1851 he was a Canal Boatman living with wife Jane and 4 children at Muse Lane, Barony, Glasgow. According to http://www.glasgowguide.co.uk/info-streetschanged2.html Muse Lane became Larbert St C4 before the 1940s. No Larbert St seems to exist now but it is interesting that Adam was born in Larbert. Is C4 a mis-transcription of G4 which is centred on Port Dundas? 6

In 1861 he was a Lighterman on "Mary Ann of Glasgow" (Lighter), Reg District of Kirkintilloch accompanioes by son Adam. 7

He worked as a Canal Boatman in Jan 1877. 8

In 1871 he was a widower and Master of Bouncer? (vessel?), Cumbernauld Reg District with brother Henry as Mate. 9

In 1881 he was widowed and Master of Vessel "Bruce", Grangemouth, Stirling and was accompanied by son Alexander. 10

Adam married Jean (Jane) Jeffrey, daughter of William Jeffrey and Margaret Ure (or Orr), on 12 Jul 1836 in Cumbernauld, Dumbarton.1 (Jean (Jane) Jeffrey was born on 17 Feb 1816 in Glasgow, Lanark 6 11 and died on 7 Jul 1869 in 47 Clyde St, Milton, Glasgow 4 12.)
