William Doar 5 6 7 8
![]() General Notes: MENTIONED IN WILL 1866 ![]() Chronology: A second christening was recorded in Sandiacre Parish on 18 Sep 1785. On 13 Oct 1797 "William Doar nephew of Catharine Doar of Sandiacre in the County of Derby doth put himself Apprentice to William Coxon of Sandiacre in the County of Derby Cordwainer". This was to be for a period of seven years. Note: A cordwainer (or cordovan) is somebody who makes shoes and other articles from fine soft leather. 18 In 1814 in Sandiacre he was described both as Cordwainer or Shoemaker at the time of the birth and christening of his son William. 19 ![]() In 1827 William signed as a trustee for the will of Richard Doar, his uncle. The two other trustees were William Doar, farmer of Stanton by Dale and William Goff, farmer of Sandiacre. William was shown only as "of Sandiacre". 20 In Oct 1837 at the time of son William's marriage, he was described as a Shoemaker. 21 In 1841 he was a Farmer living in Sandiacre with wife Sarah and son John.. 22 In 1851 he was a Farmer of 70 acres living at Church Hill, Sandiacre with Sarah and widowed daughter, Elizabeth Cowlishaw. Son John is living next door (possibly the same house). 23 24 25 In 1861 he was a Farmer of 22 acres living in Town St, Sandiacre with Sarah, son John, daughter Elizabeth and grandaughter Ruth M Doar, 7 (daughter of W&M). 26 27 ![]() William married Sarah Sampson, daughter of John Sampson and Elizabeth Kirk, on 21 Jul 1807 in Sandiacre, Derbyshire.1 2 3 4 (Sarah Sampson was born on 17 Oct 1786 in Sandiacre 28 29 and died on 17 Jun 1865 in Sandiacre 30 31 32.) |

Georgina Lyons, BT. Regarding her son William;this is an area very dear to my heart as I spent ages on the case. In the Long Eaton parish records it is as follows William Dore son of Joseph Dumelow & Milly Dore B.B.Baptised May 19th. Then in the Sandiacre parish records a few months later - William the son of Milsent door was born the 12 of May and baptised the 18th of September. I put this to Jenifer and Ernest at the time and we couldn't understand why William was baptised twice but he is one and the same. Maybe they kept quiet about the baby at first and then Millicent wanted him baptised in her own local church. Anyway he knew later in life that he was born in Long Eaton (1861 Census)
