At the time of his marriage his father is given as John Lucas, baker, (deceased). The occupation is a bit awkward but we know that Nathan Lucas born Needham was a baker in Harwich in 1841 and 1851.

He worked as a Mariner in 1859 and resided at Wycks Bishop St, Ipswich, Suffolk. 4
John married Ann Hubert, daughter of James George Hubert and Elizabeth Head, on 6 Jul 1859 in Independent Chapel at the Registry Office, Ipswich.1 (Ann Hubert was born in 1838 in Battersea, Surrey 5 6.)
