Isabella Walker
(1819-1903) |
Isabella Walker 1
Another name for Isabella was Isobella Walker. General Notes: On John Murray's death certificate, Isabella is the witness and signs with her mark. She is noted to be a Gaelic and English speaker in both 1891 and 1901 censuses. Chronology: In 1841 she was living at Kames, Glassary, Argyll in the home of father-in-law James Murray and husband John with son James. She is recorded as Isabella Walker. 5 In 1861 she was a widow living in Cossack Street, Lochgilphead with her children and working as an Agricultural Labourer. 6 In 1871 she was a widow living in Cossack St, Glassary, Lochgilphead with son John and daughter Isabella. 7 In 1881 she was widowed and living at 48 Lochnell St, Glassary, Lochgilphead where she was being kept by her daughter Catherine. She was recorded as Isabella Walker not Murray. Catherine's husband was absent but five of her children were with her there. 8 In 1891 she was living in 46 Lochnell St, Glassary, Lochgilphead with widowed son-in-law, fisherman John Stewart, and his two sons. 9 In 1901 she was a Housekeeper living at 36 Lochnell St, Glassary, Lochgilphead with grandson, herring fisherman Donald Stewart. 10 Isabella married John Murray, son of James Murray and Isabel McLarty. (John Murray was born on 12 Jan 1813 in Glassary, Lochgilphead 11 12 and died on 15 Mar 1861 in Glassary, Lochgilphead 13.) |
