  General Notes:

There is still some doubt as to his parents and some confusion with a second Samuel baptised 18 March 1821 in Stapleford (son of John and Mary) of whom no trace seems to appear after that year. Note that the 1841census does include a Sam Doar, 15, Ag Lab, lodging with Thomas Barton, Publican in March Lane, Stapleford, but he is recorded as being not of Notts so likely this is our Samuel b 25/3/1821.

A number of sources have Samuel as being the son of Richard and Peggy Doar but this seems unlikely considering his 1844 marriage cert. records William, lacemaker, as his father. There is also an IGI baptism record for 25/3/1821 in Aston on Trent with parents shown as William and Mary. William Doar and Mary Coxon seem the most likely candidates with William an Ag Lab in 1841 as was Samuel and a Framework Knitter (ie lacemaker) by 1851. William and Mary had 13 other children between 1814 and 1835 and the only gap greater than two years is between 1819 and 1822 so Samuel's 1821 early 1821 birth would fit neatly. With all the other children baptised in Sandiacre there is still the question as to why Samuel was bapt. Aston on Trent. It is worth noting that there are no other Doars baptised there in the 10 years before or after. There is a family connection to Aston on Trent with William's younger brother Samuel b 1801 living there from at least 1830. His wife was born very close by at Weston on Trent.
