In Feb 1863 at the time of his marriage he was a Labourer living in Plaistow, Essex. Three years later son Thomas' birthplace suggests the family was still in Plaistow. 2

In Oct 1868 at the time of daughter Emily's birth he was a Dock Labourer and the family was living at 2 Junction St , Canning Town, the first reference so far found for this address. 10

In 1871-1881 he was working as a Labourer and was living with his family at 2 Junction St, Canning Town, West Ham, Essex. They were one of two families living at that address. 11
