Paul Turton Gray, When the son John (Duncan son of Alexander and Elspet) was baptized at Cullen in 1789, the Old Parish Register says his name was "designed after John Duncan Esq. of Jamaica, grandfather to the child and John Ross Esq. Professor of Oriental Languages at King's College Aberdeen." Witnesses at the baptism are John Wilson Esq. of Cullen and Abraham Leslie of Findrassie, Mrs. Innes of Jamaica and Mrs. Wilson at Cullen, grandaunts to the child.
