(it seems most likely that he travelled to NZ with wife Agnes after their marriage in Ballarat in 1860. Agnes' death certificate states that she spent 1 year in NZ and 6 months in NSW. Did they go there together after the marriage with Agnes coming back via NSW to Victoria afterwards?).

There are two William Hales in the rolls 1853-1871but the other is a carter at Wakefield Street a bit furthe away and who also appears on the 1856 roll in Auckland. The Cook Street William only appears in 1863 and 1871.

He worked as a Galvanized Iron Worker in 1877. 12
