  General Notes:

I found the baptism record for Harriet on LDS church records for Sandiacre. I think there are two Harriets. One a sister of Emma who is older than Emma's daughter and one, her illegitimate daughter who accompanied Mark and Emma to Australia. Mark and Emma arrived in Hobart 11 February 1860 on the steamer "City of Hobart" from Melbourne, steerage. A Note Indicates that they were from ship "George Hilton." They arrived with children Emily (Mark's daughter with Sarah Alcock) Harriet (mentioned above) Susan (whom I thought was a daughter of Sarah and Mark, but have learned was registered in Nottingham in July 1857 as daughter of Mark with Emma claiming to be his wife.) The baby born at sea on the Hilton was not named, but the captain of the Hilton registered him when the ship arrived in Melbourne. I have copy obtained from Melbourne birth records. This child is John Thomas (Jack) Glann born 15 November 1859 at sea. On this record, Emma gave the date of her marriage as 4 April 1847. This is how I found his marriage record to Sarah in Nottingham. Obviously, the couple lied and claimed all children as theirs. I am not even sure if Harriet who married Alexander Files in Tasmania 1876 and Emily who married George Coker even knew or more to the point informed their families of the truth. I was in touch some years ago with some descendants who believed that they were descended from Mark and Emma. I will try to find that correspondence. Emma also lied on daughter's (Grace) birth certificate giving her maiden name as Alcock, further evidence that we have the correct couple.

Emma and Mark had at least 9 children my grandfather Laurie Ephriam was one of them. I have not found proof of Harriet's father. I have found Sunday School records from Tasmania on LDS film Methodist Church Records LDS 0992651 that Emily and Harriet Glann were registered in Sunday School New Norfolk 1860. Mark Glann's brother John was murdered in Tasmania 1861 and Mark's nephews are registered in same Sunday school class. The brother was a former convict whose wife had died and was killed by the husband of the women he was having an affair with according to his descendants who still live in Australia. But since they are not yours, I will get back to Emma. I think having a brother in Tasmania may be part of the reason Mark and Emma decided upon Tasmania as their destination. They left from Southport, England.
I think the family tried farming but then moved to Melbourne from McQuary Plains after the birth of William Richard Glann in January 1870. Emily and Harried married in Tasmania. Susanna lived in Melbourne. Emma died 10 November 1903 in City of Praham County of Bourke Victoria Australia. On her death certificate, her children are listed as Susannah, dead; John, dead; Maria, dead: George, dead; Lawrence, age 38; Grace, 36; Agnes, 35; Richard, 33; and Emma, dead. Emily is omitted from this list. At the time of her death and information was given by her son-in-law, Thomas Kemp, 220 Chapel Street, Praham. Emma is buried with daughter Maria Elizabeth and granddaughter Emma Isabel age 14 in Kew Cemetery. She is given as owner of this grave, denomination or section Baptist, compartment B, number 204. There is no headstone. I cannot figure out why Mark is not buried with her. Do you know this cemetery? Gardiner In daughter Emma Isabelle's birth record, Emma's place of birth is given as Derbyshire and her name formerly Doar. I am really interested to know if Emma and Mark married. I do not have a record of Sarah Alcock's death.
