  General Notes:

The following suggests Joseph and Jane arrived in NZ late 1878 or early 1879. This would fit with no birth being found in England for Emelette and also with the newspaper item stating Jane's new job before they arrived by ship in 1882 from Melbourne. It is possible that they went to Melbourne from NZ without the children.

"One thing I noticed is Joseph Doar, oldest son of William and Sarah Baguley. In New Zealand the records the family have are very precise. Joseph was born 1841, married Jane Jarvis b.1843. They left Stanton by Dale on Saturday 24th August 1878 and sailed to New Zealand in 'Waitara' arriving at the Bluff 6th December 1878. They never returned to England. " [GL 2005]

...and from Chris Andrew (2005) .....

I was sent the following by someone in NZ who found it in a book on Hawkes Bay:

"Albert FLETCHER was born 5 Apr 1875 in Pendle Hill, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand to Samuel FLETCHER and Harriet LOMAS. He died 7 Jun 1909 in Waipukurau, New Zealand and was buried 1909 in Pendle Hill Cemetery, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Albert married Lilian Rachel DOAR, daughter of Joseph DOAR, in New Zealand. Lilian was born 1878. She died 27 Aug 1970 and was buried 1970 in Pendle Hill Cemetery, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand."

"Next to them is Joseph Doar, Lilian's father, who, with his wife and children, had emigrated from Derbyshire, England. He died in 1898 at Pendle Hill when the river was in full flood. As there was no way of getting in or out, he was buried without the assistance of a Minister of the Church, but nevertheless in a Godly manner. The Blackburn Postmistress, who knew the address of all those corresponded to by the locals, made it her business to write to Mr Doar's relatives in England telling them he was buried no better than a dog. Consequently, her mischief-making prompted his relatives to cut his wife and her two daughters out of their will.

"Mrs Doar's grave is nearby. She taught at several local schools, including Tikokino and Blackburn, and was held in very high regard by pupils, parents and School Inspectors. She died in 1920, and buried near her and her husband is their grandchild, infant daughter of Emmellette Morrison."

Just before they married in S b Dale Joseph was working out at Car Coulson where the famous cream cheeses come from! Ann was definitely his Grandmother as they mention her. Joseph was the first of twelve children so perhaps it got a bit crowded at home! There are many of their descendants living in NZ today.
