Donald Murray
Chronology: In 1881 he was living with his mother and two brothers at 74 West Scotland Street, Govan. It is likely that his father was at sea. 7 In 1891 he was recorded as an Unemployed General Labourer and was living with his two brothers and widowed mother at 74 West Scotland Street, Govan. 8 In 1901 he was living with his mother at 252 Craig St, Govan and working as a Wood Working Machine Man. 9 In 20 Jun 1902 at the time of his marriage he was a Wood Moulding Machine Man living at 90 Stanley St, Kinning Park. 1 He worked as a Wood Machinist in 1911 and resided at 36 Carfin St, Govanhill, Glasgow. 10 (with Jessie, James and Jessie (Jenny)) He emigrated Unassisted on the Belgic from Glasgow arriving with Jessie, James and Jenny in Melbourne in Jun 1912. The Belgic was a 4 masted, twin screw schooner of around 10,000 tons and was built in 1903. Formerly named the Mississippi and Samland and with the Red Star Line, from 1911 to 1913 she belonged to the White Star Line, which in 1912 suffered the loss of another of their ships, the Titanic. 11 12 13 In May 1929 at the time of son Jim's marriage he was a Wood Machinist living at 23 Ebden St, Elsternwick. This house had been demolished by 2004. 14 In 1937 at the time of his death he was described as a Machinist and his usual residence was given as 6 O'Loughlan St, Ormond, Melbourne. (According to Pat Beresford he was at that time living nexty door at number 4) 6 Donald married Jessie Halket, daughter of John Halket and Janet Manson, on 20 Jun 1902 in Paisley Rd, Glasgow.1 (Jessie Halket was born on 1 Oct 1875 in 9 Glebe St, Glasgow 15 16 17 18 and died on 15 Dec 1947 in 6 O'Loughlan St, Ormond, Melbourne 19 20.)
