George William Heywood married Sarah Howarth on 25/12/1864 at Surrey, England. The 1881 UK Census lists George William Heywood (a bookkeeper aged 43) living at 5 Sidney Street, Salford, Manchester with his wife Sarah Heywood (aged 41, born Liverpool, Lancashire) and daughter Susannah Heywood (aged 12, born Chatham, Kent). Ten years later, the 1891 UK Census shows the three of them ten years older, still living at 5 Sidney Street, Salford, together with a niece named Maria Thompson (aged 14, born in Manchester, Lancashire). These censuses show Susannah's birthplace as Chatham, Kent, but this is not correct. My Uncle Fred's birth certificate (1903) shows that his mother is Susannah Clarke, maiden name Johnstone, age 35, born in Gibraltar.
The FreeBMD Index indicates that two Sarah Heywoods died at Salford in 1891, one in the first quarter of the year aged 48 and the other in the third quarter aged 69. The ages don't agree but the younger one was probably George William Heywood's wife and the other his sister who was born in 1832. The list of unassisted immigrants arriving in Victoria aboard the SS Ormuz in November 1891 includes G W Heywood (aged 53) and S Heywood (23). They must be my Grandma Susie and her foster father George William Heywood who died at Melbourne Hospital 30/5/1908 aged 68.
