In 1851 he was living with his parents in Doar's Yard, Sandiacre. ¹⁴

In 1861 he was a scholar residing with his family at Street Side, Sandiacre. ¹⁵

In 1862 he was apprenticed to "William Roberts the Younger of Beeston" as an apprentice grocer. ¹⁶

In 1871 he was living at the Grocer's shop of William Roberts in High St., Beeston where is working as an assistant. ¹⁷ ¹⁸

In 1881 he was living and working as a Grocer in High St., Beeston. ¹⁹ ²⁰

In 1891 he was living and working at his Beeston High St grocers' shop. ²¹ ²²

Between 1891 and 1901 he retired and moved back to Sandiacre. ²³

In 1901 the family was living in Derby Rd., Sandiacre and his occupation was shown as Grocer (own account). Did he move back to take over his father's Grocery? ²⁴ ²⁵
